To obtain a chauffeur license the driver must pass a criminal background check and drivers abstract review through a fingerprinting process. Once the driver passes, they receive their chauffeur license through the DMV. This means they are qualified to drive a taxi or 6 passenger limo.
Permits are given to a taxi company which complies with all the laws required through the township, state and taxi & limo commission. Legally operated companies obtain a permit through the township in which they hold an office and are legally allowed to operate in. If your not sure, ask to see the companies permit.
